The Mureșan family (6 children) - the first house built
The Mureșan family has 6 children and was living in very poor conditions. Their previous house was just a mud hut, which would flood with every rain, water flooding the floor of the house. Winters were very harsh, with walls made of mud the cold air would be no match for the wood fired stove they used to heat the home. Similarly, the roof of the hut was leaking and they did all they could to cover it with plastic sheeting.
When we first met the Mureșan family we saw that they were a hard working family, desperately trying to improve the life of their children, but the little money they earned was barely enough for food and clothes. The Roua Ministries leadership and our coordinators in that region initiated the first project in Letca for this family, by purchasing a vacant lot at the outskirts of the village and starting the first home build using the insulated sandwich panels method.
The new house building was completed successfully and the Mureșan family moved in the new house in 2022. This was a life changing event for them, as the children could now live and study in a proper home environment. The family has gained the trust of the neighbors and are now able to pick up even more work in the village, helping with home renovations and any other jobs around the home that the elders in the village might need.
The Mureșan family is now helping build homes for the other Roma families in the community, and are a great model for the other families.
