Letca is a commune in Sălaj County, Transylvania, Romania, consisting of the villages of Ciula, Cozla, Cuciulat, Lemniu, Letca (residence), Purcăreț, Șoimuseni, Toplița and Vălișoara. The commune of Letca is made up of thrifty and hardworking people. Before the revolution of 1989, next to the farms with animals, people worked on the surrounding stone platforms.
Over the years, a large family of Roma moved to Letca, who were entrusted with herds of cows and buffaloes for grazing. In the last 20 years, the surrounding stone landings have closed, the households have aged, the number of cattle has decreased dramatically, thus the Roma families in the area have lost their main source of income. The number of community members has increased and now around 15 families with their children live at the end of the commune, in very difficult conditions, in the clay house they built on the animal pasture.
The people from the Roma community work during the day in the surrounding villages, and their income is so low that they barely have enough to buy food and other necessities. Starting in 2019, together with the help of some brothers from this area, we started to get involved in the Roma community in Letca by helping with clothes, food and building houses.
